Lent 2014: Be Regular at Weekend Worship

Lent CrossDuring Lent our liturgy at the weekend Eucharists seeks to draw us into a spirit of penitence.  We abstain from some of the normal joy of our worship in order to prepare ourselves for the greater joy that is to come in the Easter season.

Our worship is marked by simplicity.  The opening responses, prayers and Gloria in Excelsis are replaced by the praying of the litany, and the Church is left plain by the removal of flowers and some of the ornaments in the sanctuary.

During Lent we also abstain from baptising (except in exceptional situations), in preparation for the renewal of our baptismal vows at Easter.
