It was a great privilege for the Parish to welcome members of the East Maitland Sub-Branch of the RSL and their families for a special ANZAC Mass in Church, and to participate in the ANZAC Day Commemorations at the cenotaph in April 2017.
We were delighted to be joined by our guest speaker and preacher Father John Deane, Executive Director of the Anglican Board of Mission, on Sunday 28th May 2017 for our Overseas Mission Lunch.
We were delighted to welcome our Bishop, Bishop Peter Stuart to preside, administer the sacraments and bring us his teaching at our Patronal Festival on Sunday 25th June 2017.
Bishop Peter baptised and confirmed catechumens, welcomed newcomers into communicant membership of the Anglican Church of Australia, and awarded Royal School of Church Music medals to members of our Junior Choir.
On a chilly winter’s evening in early July, we were pleased to welcome The Secret Garden Sessions for a night of incredible music and entertainment. The organiser of the event, Dan Burrows, was struck by the awe-inspiring beauty and acoustics of our beautiful Church building and decided that it would be the perfect place to film a concert live on location.
On Sunday 3rd September 2017 we were thrilled to commission Kim Hodges as our new Parish Ministry Assistant. Kim has responsibility within the Ministry Staff Team for ministry amongst young adults and newcomers. Kim is exploring a calling to ordained ministry, and we hope that in due course she will serve as a Parish Deacon within our community.
The Commemoration Mass for the Battle of Passchendaele was held in Saint Peter’s Church on Sunday 8th October, where we welcomed members of the RSL Sub-branch and other guests. Father David was involved in leading further services at the Maitland Cenotaph on Thursday 12th October at 5.30 am, commemorating the start of the Battle of Passchendaele, and on Saturday 14th October when the formal commemorative service was held in the presence of local dignitaries and representatives of a number of the families of local soldiers who were killed in the battle.
At the beginning of November we welcomed many neighbours from the local community as we came together to remember and pray with love for those who have died.
Our Parish Photographer Neville Foster has been out and about around the grounds capturing the beautiful jacaranda trees as we near the end of Spring.
We were delighted to welcome the clergy of the Diocese together with representatives from the parishes and agencies for the Election Synod Mass on Friday 24th November 2017.
On the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe, Sunday 26th November 2017 we farewelled Jesse Poole and Scott and Melissa Mudd at the Sung Mass, followed by a Parish Lunch. Jesse has served as the Parish Ministry Apprentice for two years, and Scott has served as the Parish Ministry Assistant.
Jesse, Scott and Melissa are moving to The Diocese of the Murray in South Australia to serve in the parishes of Victor Harbor and The Riverlands.
